Karey Groome graduated from the College of William and Mary with her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She decided to change her career track and returned to John Tyler Community College to complete her Associate Degree in Nursing. She then completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Virginia graduating With Distinction. She furthered her studies by earning her Master of Science in Nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Karey joins Family Practice Associates with a variety of Registered Nurse experience. She has an interest in women’s health and premature infants following previous work at Henrico Doctor’s Hospital on the OB/GYN specialty unit and in the Progressive Care Nursery. She has a background in Occupational Health having worked at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in the role of Employee Health RN. Presently, Karey joins the group from St. Mary’s Hospital bringing with her an appreciation of the intricacies of Vascular Therapy.
Karey loves to travel and has lived and worked abroad in both Scotland and Australia. However, Richmond is her hometown and she is excited and honored to be caring for families in the community where she was raised. In addition, to family practice she has a special interest in animal welfare issues and has previously volunteered with the Richmond Animal League and the Richmond SPCA.
Karey is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She holds memberships in both the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners.
